Abstract

To investigate whether the Medical and surgical nursing courses offer gamification elements that
contribute to the formation of clinical nursing competencies among undergraduate nursing
students.Students were divided into two groups: Medical and Surgical Nursing. Specific
presentations were created in the Learning Management System (LMS), an online program, for
every module. Various game elements were impeded throughout the module. The game
elementsinclude the participation voluntarily with the inclusion of feedback immediately (can be
positive or negative), providing a social connection. Students' have the freedom of choice and the
freedom to fail without any significantrepercussions. Gamification adoption was believedto be an
appealingand state-of-the-art approach, providing an alternative to the conventional practices,
and having applicability in nursing education. In a quantitative analysis, it was observed that
there was a significant improvement in the three learning domains after applyingthe gamification
strategy.
