Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the characteristics of paraphilia in Jacob strane in My Dark
Vanessa novel by Kate Elizabeth Russell. Jacob is 42 years old teacher with pedophilic nature.
The pedophilic behavior that exists in Jacob are his sexual fantasies and also sexual acts
involving 15 year old children. The work is analyzed by using Luring Communication Theory, as
a pre-guide to the framework set by the predators which involve the communicative strategies of
entrapment used by the predators to lure their victims into ongoing sexual relationship. The work
is based on psychological transitions and the effects of sexual gratification that caused Vanessa
psychological harm and had damaged her personality. Erikson‟s psychosocial theory is used to
focus on the certain personality development tasks that focus on one‟s strong and imbalance
personality traits. Failure in these development tasks leads to identity crisis and loss of self. This
is a qualitative research and critical analysis will be applied as a tool to analyze the text.
