Abstract

This review paper explores the multifaceted issue of homelessness and examines the role of social work interventions in addressing it. Beginning with an overview of homelessness, including its definition, types, and demographics, the paper delves into the complex causes contributing to this societal challenge. It discusses the historical perspective of social work in tackling homelessness and evaluates current practices and interventions, such as outreach programs, the Housing First approach, case management, mental health and substance abuse treatment, employment and education assistance, and advocacy and policy development. Furthermore, the paper assesses the effectiveness of these interventions through success stories and case studies while acknowledging the challenges and limitations faced by social workers in their efforts. Finally, it outlines future directions for research and practice to enhance the impact of social work in addressing homelessness.
