Abstract

The current study aims to reveal the stages of quitting smoking addiction according to the transtheoretical model of Prochaska and Declement, to help individuals addicted to smoking to change their risky behaviors and quit smoking, the researchers reached the perception of another integrated theoretical framework so that they used concepts belonging to several basic theories in psychology to explain the start of cigarette abuse and quitting, and therefore this model was called the "theoretical transverse model, or the model of stages of change", as this model recognizes that individuals They make changes in a gradual way, and it has been shown through the studies they have carried out that most smokers go through five stages in an attempt to quit smoking: (pre-thinking stage of action, stage of thinking about action, stage of preparation, stage of action, stage of maintaining the action), and this transition occurs thanks to a set of activities called change processes.
